National Caregivers Day: How to Show Your Appreciation

2 Minute Read
By Jessica Deng

Today is National Caregivers Day! Celebrated on the third Friday of February, this day honors and thanks individuals across home health, home care, family, and hospice who selflessly provide personal care, as well as physical and emotional support to those who need it most.

Whether you are a caregiver yourself or appreciate those that are caring for a loved one, National Caregivers Day is the perfect time to acknowledge the dedicated, compassionate people who work as caregivers or have a caregiving role in their families. We’ve compiled a list of thoughtful and considerate gifts and gestures that can help the caregivers in your life be recognized, appreciated, and loved:

Send a “thank you” note

There is nothing quite as heartwarming as a personalized “thank you” card or letter. Put your thoughts and gratitude on paper, let the caregivers know why you appreciate them so much.

Give the gift of flowers

Fresh flowers offer both beauty and a conversation starter. Place vases of fresh flowers in a shared area to brighten your caregiver’s spirits throughout the year.

A gift certificate to a spa

Caregiving is an incredibly stressful job. It is hard to decompress after doing this work day in and day out. Give your caregiver a chance to unwind with a gift certificate for a massage, manicure, or pedicure.

Give them a break

Caregivers need to take regular breaks to rest, recharge, and take care of their own health. Friends and family members can offer to take care for a few hours so the caregiver is able to recharge without feeling rushed to return to their shift.

Offer support

Caregivers are always concerned about their clients, but someone should be concerned about the caregiver’s well-being. Show your support by encouraging them to pursue their own interests and spend time with their loved ones outside of work.

National Caregivers Day is an important recognition of all the dedicated caregivers who devote their time to providing your or their loved ones with the services they need.
