Home Care Excellence – Nadia S.
Nadia never planned on becoming a caregiver. When she moved to the United States at the age of 17, caregiving was simply the first job that came her way. For many, this would’ve been an overwhelming introduction to a new country and profession, but for Nadia, it felt natural. She started out as a live-in caregiver for an elderly couple, and something about the work just clicked for her.
After a few years of caregiving, Nadia stepped away to raise her two children. But when they started school, she found herself wondering what to do next. In 2021, she returned to the work she knew and loved.
Since returning, she has adopted a thoughtful and personal approach to caregiving. She leads with kindness, pays close attention, and always takes the time to understand her clients. One of her core beliefs is that people should be treated as individuals, not patients or problems to manage.
When working with a new client, she spends a few days observing and understanding their personality before diving in.
“Once I understand them, I talk with them, joke with them, and treat them like a friend. Not just someone I’m there to take care of.”
– Nadia S., LifeWorx Caregiver
She doesn’t force routines. Instead, she makes sure clients feel like they’re still making their own choices. Whether it’s a walk around the block or getting ready for an appointment, Nadia looks for ways to maintain their sense of independence. She also finds creative ways to make clients feel in control. For instance, instead of using a gait belt, she prefers to walk arm in arm with her client who is able.
“One of my clients was partially blind, and I would hold her by the waist and let her take my hand. I became her human walker. It made her feel like herself.”
– Nadia S., LifeWorx Caregiver
Nadia doesn’t pretend the work is always easy. She’s honest about the challenges of her job, especially when dealing with families who might have different expectations than the client. “You get stuck in the middle sometimes,” she admits. “But I like to let my clients choose what they want to do. It’s their life.”
“I have been working with Nadia 4 years now. She is so compassionate and knowledgeable. Nadia is loved by every client I every have placed her with. We are very lucky to have her as a caregiver!”
– Jeff Hapoienu, Client Relations Manager
Although Nadia doesn’t boast about her work, her clients and LifeWorx staff speak highly of her. She’s never received a bad review, and she’s often requested again by name. Her advice for anyone thinking of becoming a caregiver is straightforward: always put the client first. She also mentioned the importance of having a good attitude, being physically ready for the demands of the job, and above all, caring about the people you’re helping.
