7 Tips on Taking Control of Your Health for Senior Men

National Men’s Health Month is celebrated every June and focuses on a broad spectrum of men’s health issues including heart disease, prostate cancer, colon/colorectal cancer, diabetes, etc. This year, if you’re a senior take the month to start new healthy habits to take control of your health and longevity.Aging happily means being healthy, so forming good diets, occasionally exercising, and quitting bad habits are essential. Below are a few ways you or the senior men in your life can stay healthy and happy as you age gracefully and with dignity.

1. Be Active

Healthier living includes being active. Start doing daily activities to maintain your strength, balance, and flexibility.

2. Eat Well

Eating a diverse, nutritious diet is just as important as exercising to help promote good health.

3. Visit Your Doctor

It’s important to schedule regular check-ups with your healthcare provider are essential for managing your health.

4. DON’T SMOKE; QUIT IF YOU DO

Excessive smoking can cause cancer, organ failure, and other serious health issues. To lower the risk of developing these health conditions, it’s best to quite smoking entirely.

5. Manage Stress

To lower the risk of stress-related heart attacks, strokes, and dementia, senior men may want to consider practicing meditation, visiting therapists, and avoid common stressors during daily life.

6. Regular Screenings

For men 65 and older, make sure you have regular screening tests for colorectal cancer, blood pressure, depression, diabetes, and abdominal aortic aneurysm.

7. Keep In Touch

Staying in touch with loved ones and close friends is a great way to feeling connected and happy. Regular socialization can also increase mental health.
