Bal Agrawal is the founder and CEO of LifeWorx. Bal came to the United States as a young man. He earned his Bachelor of Technology with distinction in metallurgic engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, his Master of Science in material science from Michigan State University, and his Doctorate of Science in metallurgic engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He worked for Praxair for 24 years as a senior-level executive. After his wife passed away in 1992, he struggled with getting everything done around the house, having a successful career, and raising his son. He realized how difficult it is to find trusted sitters and in home caregivers and started LifeWorx. In 2005, he took a small seed fund and a big idea, left Praxair, and started LifeWorx. Nearly ten years later, LifeWorx has grown enormously. Bal feels the need to keep growing the business—to keep up the spirit of change. “There’s so much opportunity and so many things in the world, you don’t want to be stagnant.” Bal regularly practices yoga, embraces his spirituality, still loves science, and wants to walk across the United States one day. Whether moving to a new country or moving to a new career, Bal truly understands the importance of taking chances and following one’s heart.
